Love is defined in the Bible, and it's not defined as a magical feeling about a person that comes over us mysteriously (and leaves just as mysteriously). Rather, God tells us that love is predominantly a set of actions one does out of a commitment that's been made to care about another. This is the gospel! That is, in the gospel, Jesus acts (comes to earth, bears His people's sins in His body, and in His death receives the punishment for His people's sins) out of a commitment He made to care for us. Paul throughout 1 Thessalonians enumerates ways in which this commitment to care for others--to love others--should be spilled out in each Christian's life.
