All Rights Reserved Art of Turntables Episode #1 The Blockley, Philadelphia, PA 04/26/2013 Art of Turntables is a Live-Performance Mega Party featuring exhibitions by super star, pioneering DJ's displaying legendary turntable skills combined with video performance art that take audiences through an epic journey of classic hip hop, soul, house, afro-beat, reggae and classic dance music of the 80's and 90s. This music experience will captivate audiences with authentic video and digital imagery of iconic music, dance, television, film and fashion on simultaneous screens of each DJ's set with larger than life video images that transform each venue into a live-action musical timeline. DJ Spinderella - Dee Dee Roper, internationally known as DJ Spinderella, is a Grammy award winning DJ, producer, rapper, writer and world class mother. Spinderella is one of the original pioneers of hip hop music beginning her career as a member of the iconic rap group Salt-N-Pepa, selling over 15 million albums and singles worldwide. Over two decades after her groundbreaking entrance into hip hop, the Brooklyn native still sets the standard for "turntablists" all over the world. DJ Cash Money is a historical figure in the art and culture of Hip-Hop. Representing Philadelphia, he is a pioneering artist in the art of turntablism and the first inductee in the DJ Hall of Fame. As an innovator in the DJ world, he won the New Music Seminar Supermen DJ Battle in 1987 and the DMC World DJ Championships in 1988. DJ Cash Money is the reason why DJ's turn their turntables sideways in what is called the 'Battle Position' and specialized and perfected "Transform"scratch, one of the most crucial scratches of the turntable art form. DJ Rich Medina has consistently taken crowds on a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul, unearthing one musical gem after another, for almost 20 years. Rich introduced a new generation of people to Afrobeat music in 2001, with Jump N' Funk, the first and most consistent US dance party dedicated to the late African musical icon, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. The Art of Turntables event is presented by the Art of Turntables Preservation Society. Our mission is to promote and preserve the art of turntablism as a tool for musical and artistic expression and to cultivate a forum and provide opportunities for artists interested in learning the art and the history of turntablism.
