Finance committee Feb. 3, 2025 highlights: Item 19.01.25: Committee accepted an audit report for fiscal year ending September 30, 2023 from BMSS (Barfield, Murphy, Shank, & Smith). Item 13.10.24: Committee approved a request for consideration of creating a Homewood Beautification Plan. Item 01.12.24: The committee voted to change the salaries of the council and mayor for the next term. Councilors' pay will rise from $4,800 to $7,500 per year. The mayor's salary will drop from $32,000 to $15,000 per year, the mayor will also serve as council president. Current rates have remained unchanged since 1988. This change applies only to future council and mayor terms and not to current members. With the transition to a city manager system, much of the administrative work currently handled by the council will shift to the city manager, allowing council members to focus primarily on legislative responsibilities. To take effect, the adjustment must be finalized by February 26, 2025, to comply with state requirements.
