Poinciana Sunrise Film: "A Portrait of Mary Ann Carroll" -- (2010)
Imagine: a Black Woman artist living in #JimCrow, defying economic injustices by selling her paintings along #US1. Ms. Mary Ann Carroll desired to "paint her way" from the #poverty of Fort Pierce, FL, for the chance of a better life. As official selections of the Sarasota and Slamdance Film Festivals of 2010, POINCIANA SUNRISE reveals the life and spirit of the "Queen of the Road," the only female member of The Highwaymen. A group of African-American Florida artists created a beautiful and historical record of landscapes lost to the development and modernization of South Florida. POINCIANA SUNRISE was directed by Chuck Gomez. The film's public exhibitions /screenings: 1. Slam Dance Film Festival, Utah; (2010) 2. Black Harvest Film Festival, Illinois; (2010) 3.
