It's early March and although the temperatures are still low, the first signs of spring are appearing on the bee farm. This time of year Alun has to keep his bee colonies fed with some sugar syrup, in this video he shows us how to make up a large batch of sugar syrup using his ingenious muck paddle tool and a large blue barrel! This 1:1 sugar syrup is used to feed the new larvae, bees that are yet to emerge and become part of the workforce. It fools the bees into thinking that early nectar is coming into the hive and stimulates the Queen Bee to lay more eggs, increasing the bee workforce that will help her as the new hives move into Spring proper. #nature #snowdoniahoney #meleryri #greattasteawards #welshhoney
