Mystery Racing Kayak Plans - PDF Plans
$119.00
Guillemot Kayaks
This kayak has been optimized for race-level efficiency while fitting the "Sea Kayak Touring Class" rules - 20ft max length, 18" minimum waterline beam. The 19'11" waterline and 18" beam (expanding to 20" with a 200lb paddler) are computer-optimized for minimal wetted surface and wave drag. The flared 20" beam conforms to class rules while also providing secondary stability and downwind surfing performance. The high foredeck gives a clean, dry ride in chop, and the cut-away deck allows efficient close-to-hull paddle strokes. The long cockpit allows full leg extension and torso rotation. This strip-built design uses 1/8" deck and 3/16" hull strips, with a lightweight racing layup resulting in a 26lb bare boat or 31lb fully equipped weight. It performs best with a rudder due to its straight tracking and wind resistance, but is a stiff, fast-turning boat not ideal for tight turns. The narrow waterline makes it less stable, though seat height can be adjusted. Included in the Plans: Eight 24" x 36" [61cm x 91cm] Drawing Pages including: An overall drawing, a full size "stacked" form drawing showing all the forms and then all the forms drawn individually and at full size. Also included are templates for the cockpit and coaming recess parts. Kayak Building Notes: These notes provide supplemental information such as bill of materials for each design. This file requires a large format printer to make hardcopies. You may also try tiling the printing on a smaller printer. If you don't want to do that Full Size Printed Plans are available Here. Recommended Manual: The Strip Build Sea Kayak - This book provides step-by-step instructions to build any strip planked kayak.
Little Auk Recreational Kayak Plans - PDF
$99.00
Guillemot Kayaks
This recreational kayak boasts a unique character, perfect for those seeking a lightweight and easy-to-navigate vessel. With its compact size, it can be easily transported on the roof of a car or the deck of a yacht, allowing for exploration of lakes and harbors. Additionally, the smaller size of this kayak allows for access to tight spaces, commonly referred to as "gunkholing." Though compact, the kayak offers stability, ensuring a safe and enjoyable paddling experience. For those looking for a shorter model, the designer also offers a 10-foot version. While this version may provide a looser track and accommodate smaller paddlers, it still upholds the portability and stability features of the 11-foot option. Catering to individual preferences, the Little Auk Recreational Kayak Plans includes both length versions. Included in the Plans: Six 24" x 36" [61cm x 91cm] Drawing Pages including: An overall drawing, a full size "stacked" form drawing showing all the forms and then all the forms drawn individually and at full size. Also included offset measurements for the cockpit. Plans are good for either the 10-foot or the 11-foot version. The design of this kayak is based on the modified traditional Alaskan baidarka style, known for its speed and seaworthiness. While the traditional "iqyax" or single baidarka shape was used, this kayak utilizes a strip-building construction method for added potential. This results in a "Aleut-like" or "Aleut-esque" design, without the traditional split bow and with a real transom rather than a complex traditional stern. The outcome is a low-volume, agile boat ideal for surfing and handling in crosswinds, though it may not be suitable for rough water conditions. Building and paddling this kayak requires significant experience and skill, making it not recommended as a first kayak project. However, the effort will be rewarded with a beautiful and responsive kayak. Included in the Plans: Eleven 24" x 36" [61cm x 91cm] Drawing Pages including: An overall drawing, a full size "stacked" form drawing showing all the forms and then all the forms drawn individually and at full size. Also included is a full size pattern for the cockpits. Aleutesque Building Notes: This design has a unique bow and stern treatment that is built differently than your average kayak. These notes will get you up to speed. These notes combined with the The Strip Built Sea Kayakbook provide all the instructions you should need.
