In the lane planning department Tesla's semi-autonomous Beta version of its optional (US$ 15K) Full Self Driving software is not quite there yet but is getting better at it at a significant rate of improvement. What it can do already is mind blowing and the rate with which Tesla iteratively improves the software through OTA updates is exceptionally impressive.
In a manner very similar to a humans the software learns to drive thanks to a selective group of responsible private owners and with each significant improvement in reliability and safety this group keeps on growing. As a student driver also makes debatable choices in traffic and sometimes breaks the rules a little, takes the wrong lane or acknowledge other road users a little too late the driver learns from that mistake and grows. And that with only camera input and prediction/cognition/reasoning thanks to its synthetical neural networks, i.e. its synthetic brain.…...more
