Ian Hoyer of the GNFAC explains the details of the fatal avalanche that occurred on 12/27/21 near Cooke City, MT. A group of 8 snowmobilers were riding when 2 of them got stuck on the SE face of Scotch Bonnet Mountain. Two additional members of their party rode up to help them dig out and the avalanche was triggered soon after. It broke 4-5 feet deep, 300 feet wide and ran 500 feet vertical. Two riders were buried and killed under 4-5 feet of debris.
