MEET OUR CYCLE 02 YOUNG CLIMATE DESIGNER! Blossom Eromosele creates sustainable solar-powered modular housing for refugees. Crafted from recycled tarpaulin and aluminum, and drawing inspiration from traditional African huts, these solar-powered housing units are locally produced in Nigeria for just $120 each. This innovative solution combines tradition with modern technology, offering dignified shelter in a sustainable manner. The project also empowers refugees through job opportunities, developing cultural connections to their heritage, and fostering a holistic and sustainable method of support. Blossom was mentored by Katie Swenson. The Young Climate Prize was created by The World Around, a NY-based nonprofit organization dedicated to championing and amplifying the work of architects and designers addressing the world’s most pressing challenges. Designed to support the generation born into the climate crisis, the program empowers young changemakers who are uniquely equipped to confront it. Participants are paired with mentors from The World Around’s international design community, whose guidance helps accelerate their impact and connects them to a global network tackling climate and social issues through design. ...more
