Penni “Gypsy” Fuller, Accident Scene Management, provided an engaging and informative overview of why it is important to know what to do in an emergency, specifically when you are one of the first on the scene of a motorcycle crash. She covered the basics of hands only CPR and the difference in standard rescue breathing and the chin thrust technique to maintain an open airway. After explaining the reasons why one should not remove a helmet from a motorcyclist who has been in a crash, she then covered the reasons why it may be necessary and, with the help of her assistant, demonstrated the proper method to remove the helmet that lessens the likelihood of causing further injury. Everyone on the roadway is potentially the first on the scene of a crash which is why having proper bystander care training is so important for everyone, riders and drivers alike.
