Background: This project is a pen holder which loops through three states: 1. Pen Recognition: Proximity Sensors recognize when a pen is lit and light up LEDs corresponding to where inserted. The default rest state is both LED1 and LED10 being unlit.
  • If a pen is placed in the first hole, LED2 will remain unlit for 2.4s.
  • If a pen is placed in the second hole, LEDs 3 and 4 will flash for 2.4s.
  • If a pen is placed in the third hole, LEDs 5 and 6 will flash for 2.4s.
  • If a pen is placed in the fourth hole, LEDs 7 and 8 will flash for 2.4s.
  • If a pen is placed in the fifth/last hole, LED9 will remain unlit for 2.4s.
2. TIme: Military time will be displayed through the flashing of LEDs where the far left led is 1, the next 2, and so on. Zero is represented by both the first (far left) and last (far right) LEDs being unlit. For example 9:34 am will flash 0931 (LED 1 and 10, LED9, LED3, LED). 3. Temperature: The temperature read through a TMP36 will be displayed in the same manner as that for time. In order to change state, the user must press the button until flashing of LEDs seizes. In the video: The first state is shown, where a pencil is placed in each hole to demonstrate how the LEDs flash. After pressing the button, the state changed to time. At filming the time was 10:04pm into 10:05pm so the display flashed 2/2/0/4 and 2/2/0/5. After pressing the button again, the state changed to reading the temperature, where it read the temperature in the room to be 74 degrees. Pressing the button again will continue to loop through the states in these order.
