If you’ve developed a porn habit and want to phase out of this behavior, locking down your devices can really help. This is especially helpful if you're trying to do NoFap or "no nut november."

My personal approach is to use Proton Mail for account management. When I create an account, I don’t save the password. Instead, I have to initiate a password reset that goes to Proton Mail. Then, I block Proton Mail using my DNSFilter and the BlockerX app on my phone. This makes it really annoying to remove these safeguards. Even the BlockerX app I use on my phone can’t be disabled or deleted unless I go through Proton Mail.
If I want to disable DNSFilter on my home network, I have to login to my router, which is also managed with Proton Mail. Furthermore, I use client-side fallbacks like Freedom to add an extra layer of protection.
I also enable 2 factor authentication on everything to increase security, but also to increase the time it takes to access an account.
1. Use DNS filtering on your home network
Recommended DNS Filters: DNSFilter, CleanBrowsing, OpenDNS
The best filter I’ve used is DNSfilter, but CleanBrowsing is apparently a great alternative.
You'll need to use a service like noip for dynamic IPv4 addresses.
2. Laptops and roaming devices:
Use the DNSFilter roaming client to stay connected when off the home network.
Freedom.to can be installed on your desktop or laptop and acts as another layer of protection. It’s a website and app blocker that can also block the internet as well. Freedom can also be used to temporarily block distracting apps so that you can stay focused during the work day.
You can use filter scheduling on either freedom.to or your DNS Filter to build your own personal habits. For example, checking social media or email at only pre-defined points during the day. This can help you design your own systems for productivity.
Furthermore, you might want to use websites like Twitter or Reddit, but it’s impossible to block the adult content on these websites without blocking them entirely.
However, if you’ve developed a habit of looking at adult content at night or late afternoon, you could temporarily enable access to these websites during a point in the day where you never engage in this behavior.
3. Mobile Filtering:
I tried various different apps, but most are too easy to circumvent or they just weren’t comprehensive enough. I found a solution that I’ve used for over a year now. BlockerX is by far the hardest to circumvent and the most comprehensive solution. The dev team is extremely dedicated to the project and their experts at finding ways to disable or get around their own app.
Notable features:
Enable a VPN for stricter results. The app still works really well without the VPN enabled
Deleting or disabling the app is difficult
By default, the most common browsers are supported. You should block the use of unsupported browsers just in case.
Blocking image and video search is a big deal as these results can be difficult to 100% filtered out, even with safesearch enforced. Blocking them entirely is a great option that I personally use.
The block screen has a 3 second timer, so your device isn’t usable for those 3 seconds. This helps reduce situations where you “fish” for content that got past the filter. The timer delay makes this really inconvenient.
