For every challenge we face, interpersonal or otherwise, we have a choice between two basic responses: reactivity or receptivity. In this moving and engaging talk, singer-songwriter Maria Carter compares her observations of the natural world with an examination of human behavior, and arrives at the conclusion that we have a cultural bias toward reactivity. She shares insights from her experiences as a divorcee and cancer survivor, and encourages us to consider choosing receptivity over reactivity in a proportion more in alignment with the example provided by Nature. In addition to her previously published albums and poems, she is currently working on a new musical project that incorporates a variety of artistic expression, including visual art, video, web design and spoken word, to be released on her own independent label at the end of 2014.
