Marek Pędziwiatr is a pianist and composer from Wrocław, Poland. He is the leader of the hugely popular sextet EABS, whose current 2019 album Slavic Spirits received widespread critical and popular acclaim, and a member of Błoto – four musicians from EABS whose free jazz aesthetic is rooted in brutal hip-hop grooves, as heard on their recently released third LP, Kwasy I Zasady (Acids and Bases). Marek is involved in other musical projects under the name Latarnik, including the 2021 album Nafs At Peace, a collaboration with UK-based flautist/bandleader Tenderlonious and Pakistani instrumental quartet Jaubi. All the above are released on Astigmatic Records. New Polish Jazz: Ones To Watch is a series of five in-depth interviews hosted by jazz critic Jane Cornwell (Jazzwise, London Evening Standard) during lockdown and featuring creators whose contribution to the jazz canon within and outside Poland is considerable. Each musician is wildly different. All are authentic, visionary and internationally acclaimed.
