How To Make A DIY Stencil and Create This Wall Art With 5 Simple Tools. In this video, you’ll see the steps that I used to create a 7 layer handmade stencil for my client in Key Largo. She suffered with chemical sensitivities, but really wanted the look of a vintage wallpaper. Her interior designer contacted me since I work primarily with environmentally friendly products. I teamed up with their environmentalist to find and use the right products. Not all zero VOC paints are created equal. She approved of the line of Sherwin Williams Harmony Acrylic Paints and so did I! After working those details out, I worked on the preparation of the stencil. After drawing out each layer and picking out the colors, I began handcutting each stencil, carefully making sure to align each one with another.
