Its is located in a village in Derweze in middle of Turkmenistan Karakum Desert. Door to hell is a massive man made mining disaster. In the Soviet era in 1971, in the process of mining of natural gas, suddenly part of desert collapsed and that resulted into the toxic gases like methane to leak for decades.
