The project aims to allow system integrators to transmit their data through a distributed control system, synchronously over a single multi-pair cable with up to 5kHz data update rate while having less than 5μs clock jitter. The system supports up to 255 slave nodes including servo motors, IO ports, and basic data communication interfaces like I2C, SPI, and PWM that are widely used in the industry. Communication between slave nodes will be done by a customized Ethernet communication protocol, which is highly optimized for the system. Further, a customized version of PTP will be used for clock synchronization which will reduce the computational complexity of clock synchronization. FPGAs will be used for the implementation of the design to achieve better performance.
