Have you noticed the new mural being installed on the Old Fire Station No. 1 building downtown? Whatcom Museum began installing it at 201 Prospect Street (next to Old City Hall) on August 12. The mural is the first of seven projects we recently selected after a competitive proposal process. The projects are intended to add aesthetic appeal and create more enjoyable experiences for people downtown. When completed this fall, the mural will serve as a wayfinding tool, inviting downtown visitors to explore Maritime Heritage Park and the waterfront. And, in keeping with the Old Fire Station’s purpose as an archive space, it features historical photographs that can only be found within the walls of the building’s renowned photo archive collection, including people, animals, acrobats, and other vaudeville performers.
