The items used for the prototype are GMR AB001-02e sensors, Arduino Mega(master), Arduino UNO(slave), 7-segment displays, BCD and some LEDs.
The process is also specified here:
The sensors detect the vehicles and store the values for each lane as counters. Then the next turn is given to lane 1 for the first turn and then the turns will be given according to the decreasing order of the density of the vehicles on each lane.
The algorithm decides which lanes to be switched by itself. Decision making for the next lane is made during the yellow light of the traffic signals on different lanes.

We have also added a pedestrian safety system which ensures that the pedestrian signal gets green when the traffic light on the lane is red and vice versa.
For safety purposes, the pedestrian lights for each lane are kept red on yellow lights.
