TNO conducts an Early Research Programme on Social eXtended Reality (SXR), to enable people to communicate virtually as if they were in the same place. To realize this ambition, the underlying network supporting this type of communication needs to be fast, provide significant bandwidth and processing capacities but more importantly needs to be dynamic and to quickly adapt to the requirements of the users and the devices used in SXR communication. For this reason, TNO aims at creating a SXR 5G network slice, which uses 5G, edge computing, and SDN/NFV paradigms to provide a flexible network infrastructure to support SXR communication. This video presents a first version of this SXR 5G network slice, where video processing for traditional videoconferencing is moved seamlessly from the end user device to an edge node, and viceversa.
