Wednesday, April 13, 2022 | 08:00AM – 9:00AM (PST, Redmond Time) Diversity in Cybersecurity Webinar | Achievement Unlocked: A Real Life-Size Statue of a Latina Woman in Tech Presenter(s): Beatris A. Mendez Gandica Description: Beatris A. Mendez Gandica is from San Cristobal, Venezuela. She is a Program Manager at Microsoft and the founder of Nuevo Foundation, where she works to prepare underrepresented students to become tomorrow’s leaders. To date, the nonprofit has taught more than 9,500 students about computer science and STEM education across thirty-one countries and Puerto Rico. In 2021 she was selected to be one of the 125 ambassadors chosen for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) If/Then campaign to help shift the way our country—and the world—thinks about women in STEM. The ambassadors include 20 women in tech, seven Latinas overall, and only one Latina in Tech! In this webinar, Beatris will talk about why the Nuevo Foundation’s mission is to inspire kids to be curious, confident, and courageous by discovering the world of STEM and how she became a Latina woman in tech with a life-size statue.
