Matt Nakoa - Waltz No. 4 "The Fiddler"
Waltz No. 4 "The Fiddler" from Antique Dances Antique Dances is available at MattNakoa.com, on streaming services, and in online stores. "The Fiddler" is essentially a violin showpiece written for piano, much as young Liszt was inspired to write after hearing the diabolical virtuosity of Paganini. My maternal Gramma's larger-than-life, fun-loving husband (dubbed "The Amazing" Ferdinand) was supposedly a musician (though I only ever heard him scat-sing, cocktail in hand) and his father was a bandleader and violinist. When I'd visit as a young teenager, I'd play him Liszt CD's and he'd play me Art Tatum and we'd discuss. One day he gifted me a poster for an 1832 Paganini "Farewell" concert. It's a replica, of course, but I was just fascinated by the grandiosity of it. "Signor Paganini will perform variations on 'God Save the King' on ONE STRING ONLY!", "In which will be produced various humorous imitations of the farm yard.", etc. I began to imagine a wild fiddler performing death defying musical acrobatics for an audience that doesn't dare breathe. Thus The Fiddler's Waltz was born. Composed in 2012 (first sketched circa 2001) Recorded on June 1st, 2022 at Carriage House Studios, Stamford CT on a Hamburg Steinway B Audio Recording, Mixing & Mastering - Mikhail Pivovarov Assistant Audio Engineer - McLee Mathias Creative Director, Camera Operator - Julia Barrett-Mitchell Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Color Correction - Mikhail Pivovarov Video Editor - Matt Nakoa
